ROB RUN Launches on Steam as a Free-to-Play Crime Sandbox in Early Access
Kefir's ROB RUN went live on Steam on November 4 as a free-to-play Early Access game where every cop and criminal is a real player. The developer has already adjusted police mechanics after its playtest.

ROB RUN, a multiplayer crime sandbox from developer and publisher Kefir, launched on Steam on November 4, 2026. The game is free to play and is in Early Access, according to its Steam store page, which also lists in-app purchases.
In a launch-day post on the game's Steam news hub, Kefir wrote that "ROB RUN has officially launched, and the streets of Looty Bay are waiting for new heroes." The team had said the day before that it intended to bring servers online at 5 PM UTC, which is noon Eastern time.
What kind of game is it?
ROB RUN is built around large shared servers. The store description says that every cop and every criminal is "a living breathing human with their own agenda," and that you'll have 5,000 players around you. Police are played by real people too, which the developer frames as a real threat rather than background AI.
According to the store page, the main pillars are:
- Clans and territory. Create a crime family or join one, assign roles, organize raids, take territory, start gang wars or negotiate truces.
- High risk. You can lose what you've gathered at any moment, and so can everyone else.
- Heists and chases. Bank robberies, raids on rival hideouts, police chases and shootouts are part of the daily loop.
- Hideouts. You can build and upgrade a base to store loot and vehicles and place workbenches and safes, with the warning that a more lavish base attracts more intruders.
- Server wipes. The description says you can rise from "a regular thug to the boss of the server's largest organization" in a week and then start over.
Steam lists the game for Windows, and its categories include online PvP, online co-op and MMO.
Changes after the playtest
ROB RUN ran a public playtest before launch, which ended on November 2. In a post titled "First Changes & Server Schedule" published on launch day, Kefir described the first round of adjustments, starting with the police:
- Cop respawn time has been increased, with an even longer delay added for each consecutive death.
- Cops can now buy police badges, with the selection depending on the district they live in.
- The number of badges earned through looting and cop salaries has been significantly reduced.
In an earlier playtest update, the developer also said it was working on giving players a pistol when they join a server and every time they respawn. The team called the playtest "a huge help" for stress-testing servers and fixing critical technical issues.
Should you try it?
Because ROB RUN is free, the barrier to entry is low. Keep in mind that it's an Early Access game built around player-versus-player risk, so expect balance changes and server wipes. Kefir has said it plans to keep "testing, improving, and building ROB RUN together" with players. If you prefer a more structured free-to-play shooter, browse our free-to-play PC games.
