RAID: Shadow Legends on PC: A Beginner's Guide to Your First Week
New to RAID: Shadow Legends? Here is how champions, affinities and the main game modes work, plus practical tips for a strong first week on PC.

RAID: Shadow Legends is a free-to-play collection RPG from Plarium. You gather champions, equip them with gear and send teams of up to five into turn-based battles across the dark fantasy world of Teleria. On PC, you can play it through Plarium's official launcher, Plarium Play, or on Steam.
The game is easy to start but has a lot of depth. This guide covers the basics you need in your first week.
Champions, factions and rarity
Every champion belongs to one of more than a dozen factions – for example the Banner Lords, High Elves, Barbarians, Undead Hordes and Demonspawn. Factions matter for certain game modes, especially Faction Wars, where you can only use champions from one faction at a time.
Champions also have a rarity, from Common up to Legendary and beyond. Higher rarity usually means stronger skills, but early on, a well-built Rare champion can carry you a long way.
Understanding affinities
Each champion has an affinity: Magic, Force, Spirit or Void. The first three follow a simple triangle:
- Magic is strong against Spirit
- Spirit is strong against Force
- Force is strong against Magic
Void champions have no strengths or weaknesses. Hitting an enemy with an advantaged affinity makes your attacks more reliable, so check enemy affinities before tough fights.
The main game modes
- Campaign – the story mode and your main source of early experience and gear.
- Dungeons – repeatable stages that drop specific rewards, such as gear sets or upgrade materials.
- Clan Boss – a daily boss fight shared with your clan, rewarding damage over time.
- Arena – asynchronous PvP against other players' defense teams.
- Faction Wars and Doom Tower – more demanding challenges for mid- and late-game teams.
Gear and masteries
Gear is where a lot of a champion's power comes from. Pieces belong to sets, and equipping several items from the same set grants bonuses. Masteries unlock later and add permanent passive upgrades to individual champions.
A good habit is to focus gear on a small core team instead of spreading resources across many champions.
Tips for your first week
- Pick a small core team. Invest in four or five champions that work well together.
- Use auto-battle for farming. Repeating Campaign stages is the fastest way to level champions early.
- Join an active clan. Clan Boss rewards and clan activities speed up progress significantly.
- Check affinities before hard fights. Swapping one champion can turn a loss into a win.
- Log in daily. Daily and login rewards add up quickly in the first weeks.
