Enshrouded Hits 1.0: New Region, Level 50 Cap and the End of the Main Story
Keen Games' survival action RPG left Early Access on October 15 with a completed map, a new endgame region, higher level and gear caps and a reworked mage class. Post-launch patches are already rolling out.

Enshrouded is out of Early Access. Keen Games released version 1.0 of its co-op survival action RPG on October 15, 2026, completing the world of Embervale and wrapping up the main story. The Steam store page lists the full game at $39.99.
"This is a huge milestone for Enshrouded and for us," the team wrote in its launch-day post on the game's Steam news hub.
A complete map and a new region
According to Keen's 1.0 changelog highlights, the full release finally opens the entire map. The headline addition is Cinder's Cradle, a new region in the north beyond the Veilwater Basin. It has two layers: a lava-covered wasteland full of ruins below, and a realm of floating islands raised by the Ancients above, connected by tendrils of the Shroud.
That's not the only new ground. Keen lists:
- Two new Hollow Halls, one in the Albaneve Summits and one in the Veilwater Basin.
- New areas at the edges of the map in the Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes, including extra Shroud roots for players who need more skill points.
- Access to structures in older biomes that players had been trying to get into for years.
The story concludes – for now
With 1.0, Keen says players finally discover the mysteries behind the Ancients and the Shroud, and the story of Embervale is concluded "for now." The studio adds that the Shroud still lingers and the Fell still want more territory, leaving room for future content.
Higher caps and a reworked mage
The full release raises the maximum player level to 50, and gear can now be upgraded to level 55. A new Flame Level raises the maximum number of Flame Altars to 15, and a new survivor specializing in Ancient knowledge and recipes joins your base.
Ahead of launch, Keen also outlined a combat update aimed at mages. It added nine new spells, including a new category of summons such as fire, ice and shock totems and a Hollow Skeleton, plus a heavy wand attack that pierces enemies and new skills for mages and archers.
Post-launch support
Keen has kept patching since release. Enshrouded was confirmed as Steam Deck Verified on October 23. Patch 1.0.1.0 on November 2 made bosses stay engaged in combat longer after being attacked, addressing frustrating ranged fights where bosses could recover health while under fire. Hotfix 1.0.1.2 followed on November 4 with crash fixes, including a rare water-related crash, and a fix so pinned recipes stay pinned.
Who it's for
If you skipped Enshrouded during its long Early Access period, 1.0 is the natural time to jump in: the map is complete and the story has an ending. It supports co-op, so it's a strong pick for groups that enjoy building and exploring together. For a free-to-play alternative in the open-world survival space, take a look at Once Human.
