Coffee Stain Studios has added one of the most requested features to its factory-building hit. As of November 4, Satisfactory supports crossplay between PC and consoles, according to the studio's update notes on Steam. The timing is deliberate: the update landed exactly one year after the game's original console release.

Who can play together

Crossplay connects four storefronts and platforms:

  • Steam
  • Epic Games Store
  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S

That means a PC player on Steam can now build a factory with friends on PS5 or Xbox, and Steam and Epic players can finally share a world without workarounds.

What you need to know before you start

There are two important caveats.

An Epic account is required. Crossplay is handled through Epic Online Services, so you'll need a free Epic Games account for crossplay and cross-platform friend lists. That applies even if you bought the game on Steam.

Dedicated servers don't support crossplay. Coffee Stain notes that dedicated servers are currently available only on PC and therefore can't be used during crossplay sessions. Mixed PC and console groups will need to use player-hosted sessions for now.

The studio links to an FAQ on its support page for players who want step-by-step setup details.

Other changes in the update

Alongside crossplay, Coffee Stain announced a partnership with Indifferent Broccoli, a dedicated server hosting provider. PC players can find it through a new "Rent a Server" button in the Server Manager menu. The studio says it chose the company after seeing its work with the community-run Coffee Cup Studios events.

The update also overhauls Satisfactory's telemetry system. Players will see a one-time popup asking whether they want to participate, and the choice can be changed later in the Options menu. There's also the usual round of bug fixes, including a fix for the Download Save interface in the Server Manager.

Why it matters

Satisfactory has always been at its best in co-op, where friends split up factory lines and argue about conveyor spaghetti. Crossplay removes one of the biggest barriers to getting a group together, especially for players whose friends are on consoles.

The Epic account requirement may annoy some Steam players, and the lack of crossplay on dedicated servers limits persistent mixed-platform worlds. Still, for most groups who host their own sessions, this is the update they've been waiting for.
