Pearl Abyss released Charting the Unknown, the first purchasable DLC for Crimson Desert Enhanced, worldwide on October 29 at 3 PM PT, according to the studio's press release. It's available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Mac.

On Steam, the DLC is listed at $24.99 as a separate add-on for Crimson Desert Enhanced. Pearl Abyss also says on its official site that current Crimson Desert owners receive a free upgrade to the Enhanced edition.

New stories for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane

The DLC adds one new personal quest each for Kliff, Oongka and Damiane. According to the official patch notes, these become available in the Journal after you finish the main story quest "Journey's End."

The ocean opens up

The biggest change is the sea. A new quest, "A Wider World," starts after the main story quest "Howling Hill" once your Greymane camp has been expanded far enough. From there:

  • Ships become a mount. You can build one through a dispatch mission or buy one from fleetmasters, and customize it with parts sold in Demeniss and Delesyia.
  • Maritime trading arrives with new trade goods.
  • Diving uses a new breath gauge. Refining your diving suit increases breath capacity, and new food items restore breath temporarily.
  • Underwater mounts can be subdued or fed until their Trust is high enough to register them.
  • Uncharted islands can be pioneered through new missions, and treasure maps point to hidden loot.

Housing, strongholds and more

Charting the Unknown also expands life in Pywel. The patch notes list an upgraded housing system with a Free Construction mode, two decoratable castles, 17 new residences, management of liberated strongholds, festivals at camp and an additional level of Trust. The press release also confirms romance as part of the DLC.

For combat-focused players, there's a new challenge mode called "Garden of Trials," new equipment, several new bosses (some of which can be rematched using Memory Fragments) and a Relic Collector NPC who trades items for relics found while exploring. There's even a new dice minigame, "Banker's Dice."

November 6 patch: performance fixes

A week later, Pearl Abyss released patch 2.04.08. It was available on Steam for PC on November 6, with Epic Games Store and Xbox versions marked as coming later. The notes say it improves frame rate drops in certain areas, with more performance work planned, and fixes a bug where the ship's wheel wouldn't rotate while steering. It also addresses housing issues, such as indoor objects disappearing, and adds a small touch: spotted seals can now be fed.

Should PC players jump in?

If you finished Crimson Desert and wanted a reason to return, this is a substantial expansion focused on exploration and life-sim systems rather than just new fights. Just note that the new personal quests require finishing the main story, and the ocean content requires progress through "Howling Hill" plus camp upgrades.
